Street
parades, processions and entertainers holiday atmosphere to rival Rio
De Janeiro!
Don´t miss this fantastic parade with larger than life costumes, float
and fancy dress so a camera is recommended. The procession start about
5 p.m. on Saturday at the Balcon de Europa in the centre of Nerja, you
are not guaranteed good weather so wrap up warm. There are also
competitions for the best costumes in each category, lots of fun to
brighten up a winter day.

Easter

Easter
processions each day.
Religious icons held aloft and paraded through the streets. Also not to
be missed is the procession of fancy dress, full of colour.

May 3rd
- Day of the Crosses
|
Businesses and neighbours complete to display home made palm and flower
crosses and shrines outside their premises. Traditional foods of
Marcocha (popcorn with honey), Arropiá (caramel) are eaten. |
May 15th
- San Isidro
|

A spectacular procession of horses, carts and decorated cars and vans,
many participants dressed in traditional costume, passing out sweets
and drinks of Sherry. The procession starts from the centre of Nerja
and makes its way to the village of Maro, flanked all the way by locals
and tourists alike joining in the merriment. Eventually nearly the
whole town ends up at Maro near the caves where the partying continues
for 2 – 3 days and nights accompanied by live groups and dance troupes,
beer stalls abound selling bar-b-que´d and grilled food, fairground
stalls add to the party atmosphere.

June 23rd – 24th
San Juan The night of San Juan takes place along the
beaches of the Costa with bonfires erected and tents to house the
revellers. Live music with bandstands and numerous spontaneous parties
make it a night to remember. Beach bars and restaurants stay open all
night often providing their own live entertainment.
July 16th
- Virgen Del Carmen Fisherman's feast day, and to celebrate they
participate in a procession to the beach and into the sea carrying the
Virgen aloft.
September 7th
– 9th - Maro Feria Fun fair and celebrations throughout the village
of Maro day and night. Beer stalls and food bars abound. Many arranged
displays and song groups.
October 9th –
12th (dates vary slightly each year)-
Nerja Feria

A
funfair on a large scale, day and night events, groups, dancing, beer
tents, theme tents and food bars non-stop music and dancing for 3 days
and nights. Horse displays, competitions.

Torrox Village – Festival of “Migas” On the last Sunday before Christmas the village of
Torrox celebrates an unusual tradition with their local culinary
delight of “migas”. Normally served as an accompaniment to a main dish,
of fried fish for instance, migas comprises of fried bread crumbs
liberally laced with garlic. Of course it is just another excuse for
partying which the Spanish residents and holiday maker alike pursue
with vigor. There are numerous beer stalls and impromptu live music and
Flamenco dancing events. |
