Nerja holiday activities and things to do
Frigiliana Moorish Town
Historic and beautiful Moorish mountainside village
with cobbled streets and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean and surrounding
mountains. Visit the Garden Bar amidst the flowers and sun-soaked terraces, enjoy an
interesting outdoor Bar-B-Que or bistro menu. Buses/taxi available for the 10 minute drive.
Nerja Caves
Fantastic prehistoric caves discovered by children in 1959, and open to the public.
Annual holiday festival of music and dance each July, with concerts being held in the largest
cavern. Cave paintings and exhibits. Picnic areas in the landscaped gardens.
Features the worlds largest stalactite as in Guinness Book Of Records.
Balcon De Europa - Nerja
Once a fortress in the 9th century, now a beautiful palm-tree bedecked
peninsular overlooking the sea with beautiful views and a restaurant overlooking the
ocean.
Weekly Flee Market
Usually held on Tuesday in the ‘Chaparil’ area of town with bargains to be held in
terra cotta and china, leather, Moorish rugs, and interesting objects.
Haggling is definitely the order of the day.
Puente del Aguila
XIXth century aqueduct built to transfer water to Maro`s sugar factory, now ruins.
Velez Málaga Aqua Park
A super water park for children and adults alike. Great fun while on holiday.
Centro Historico De Nerja
Old quarter of the village of Nerja, built in 1487, with narrow streets and white
facades.
Iglesia El Salvador Nerja
XVIIth century church, in a charming Baroque-Mudejar style.
Ornithological Park & Botanic Gardens, Almuñécar
Picturesque gardens and specimens, a good day out for the family.
Granada, Seville, Morocco
Local travel agents offer day excursions to all these destinations plus many others.
Granada is a must for the beautiful Alhambra Palace and gardens, just a 2 hour drive.
Seville is slightly more at 3 hours distance but well worth the visit.
Walking, Horse Riding, Bicycling
There is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the mountains terrain, whether you prefer to
cycle, ride or walk. A superb way of seeing real Spain.
Flamenco
El Colono in Call Granada offer a super meal with energetic Flamenco cabaret thrown
in. Take a camera, or try the Burro Blanco in Calle San José.
Nerja Book Centre
A very useful shop – take in an old paperback, and exchange it for one you have not
read. They also rent video films, T.V’s and video players.
Restaurants
Plentiful and varied – from Chinese to Pizza to Mexican to Spanish.
Also a choice of local fish restaurants offering the very freshest fish you will
ever taste!
Cultural Centre
In Calle Granada Nerja, from local choirs and theatre groups to a Verdi Opera!
A must for culture vultures.
